Soundscapes

I have over quite a long space of time, used different sources of field recordings. This began in East London in the 90s, creating soundscapes for the production of chill out rave music, by taping found sounds, ranging from the springs of an angle poise lamp to chatter on the number 8 bus or Brick Lane drifts.  I am fascinated by the breadth of sounds we encounter, from random conversations or joggers feet pounding by, to the stunning and eery emergence of birds during Lockdown, bird bushes in different countries, and the transposition of mechanical noises such as washing machines to produce beats.  More recently, I took  part in a collaboration taping mycelial communications in Epping forest, taping transduced electromagnetic spikes emitted by forest fungi.  I am also interested in voices past, the ghosts of old recordings made on reel to reel or family members such as my 96 year old mum, recounting stories from Ireland.
